Chocolate Bush?

The following question was sent to the P&PDL diagnosticians here at Purdue University:

Q: I've heard there is a chocolate bush or shrub that has a chocolate fragrance. Have you ever heard of it?

A: The only plant that comes to mind (besides the cacoa plant that is the source for chocolate) is carob, Ceratonia siliqua. It is a semi-tropical tree, only would be hardy to Florida and Southern California. Carob is considered a chocolate substitute. Hope this helps. For further information, there is a nice web site on Carob at http://www.humorscope.com/herbs/carob.html
