The following question was sent to the P&PDL
diagnosticians here at Purdue University:
Question: I live in Indianapolis. Last year I noticed
one of my coneflower plants had yellow striations on it's leaves
which looked like rose mosaic. The plant was not chlorotic. Other
than the discolored leaves it seemed healthy and flowered. This
year, I've noticed in addition to the original plant with mosaic
like appearance there are now three more on the other side of
the path displaying same symptoms. I have had a rose with mosaic
planted in the general area, could this be a source of the problem?
Answer: Before
control recommendations are given, it is very important to
identify the specific virus. Therefore, we are not able to
answer your specific question without seeing a sample. You
are welcome to submit a sample to our lab and we will diagnose
the problem for a fee of $11 within Indiana. Virus testing
is an additional $25. If you do not wish to pay for the extra
virus test, only "most likely" comments will
be given rather than confirmed comments.
If
you do not want virus testing done for the additional $25, please
state so on the sample submission form. You can find a copy of
our sample submission
form on our webpage, or you can write a letter describing
your problem. Include your email address and we can respond via
email. Mail your sample to:
