Emerald Ash Borer

Emerald Ash borer has now been detected in Stueben County. The current infestation is believed to have resulted from the movement of firewood from the generally infested area. These photos, taken at the Indiana EAB site show that the EAB can infest very small trees. The sunken area of bark was the only symptom visible on this newly planted tree. Peeling back the bark revealed the gallery of a EAB that was destined to emerge this summer. It is very important to inspect ALL recently planted trees for early symptoms of EAB. Not all trees show obvious symptoms. The third photo of larval galleries was taken from an apparently healthy tree showing no symptoms.
